Majority of people are either being afflicted or inflicted.
Both afflict and inflict cause pain, but afflict means to cause suffering or unhappiness, something a disease does, but inflict means to force pain or suffering, like if you smack someone upside the head. The difference between the two is whether the emphasis is on the one suffering or the one causing the suffering.

CAUSES/SOURCES OF AFFLICTION
Suffering can be “the work of Satan…to cause [us] to fall away from Jesus” (Luke 22:31–34). 5. Sometimes, we must humbly accept “the mystery of suffering,” which is beyond our power to comprehend (Job 40:8–14).

Some afflictions are as a result of deprivations of spiritual nutrients. For "spiritual suffering," human spiritual needs include Love, Faith, Hope, Virtue, and Beauty. Spiritual suffering is experienced when these needs are unfulfilled. Spiritual care involves assisting in the fulfillment of these needs.
